Shudder Presents: J-Horror Juggernauts
Hideo Nakata’s 1998 horror film Ringu was an instant and original classic, spawning a raft of remakes, and heralding a Japanese horror mythology that always seemed to involve young girls from watery places with lank hanks of black hair. Both Ringu–with its tale of a video that puts a death-curse on viewers once watched–and Takashi Shimizu’s J-horror sister film, Ju-on: The Grudge–with more of that ominous black hair–gave us quick bursts of brilliance before they gained notoriety and fame beyond the cult of horror film fiends
Tonight we celebrate the long-gestating battle to end all battles! Hair vs. hair, pale vs. pale and creepy creak vs. creepy creak; do not miss the showdown sure to make Freddy vs. Jason look like child’s play: Sadako Vs. Kayako. Is there room for only one angry Japanese spirit (and her hair) in this world? Join us as we descend together into a triple feature from hell.
